2024 Honda Africa Twin design patented in India

Honda has filed design patents for the updated MY2024 Africa Twin in India. The image of the patent application has leaked on the internet portraying its updated styling.

For reference, the flagship adventure tourer was updated in December 2024 for the European markets.

The updated iteration made its way to Japan earlier last week, and very soon it is expected to land on Indian soil as well. Both Standard Africa Twin and Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES have been updated with a new powertrain and a minor refreshed styling. It continues to be available in both the standard and Sports ED guises.

2024 Honda Africa Twin: Design

The overall styling of the Africa Twin adventure bike remains largely unchanged, barring a few elements. For starters, it gets a revised LED headlight setup with a reprofiled encasing. The latest iteration of the Africa Twin is available in two colour schemes- Matt Ballistic Black Metallic, and Pearl Glare White, with the latter being a tricolour theme.

The Europe-spec Africa Twin comes with an adjustable seat of 835-855mm, however, the India-spec model sits slightly lower at 810-830mm. Also, the front fairings seen on the patent image, are slightly different from the model currently on sale. Rest of the design remains largely unchanged featuring a tall windscreen, a tall handlebar, hand guards, a swooping tail section with a single-piece grab rail, a chunky engine sump guard, and wire-spoked wheels.

2024 Honda Africa Twin: Mechanical specs

Powering the 2024 Africa Twin is the same 1,084cc parallel-twin cylinder engine but receives several updates over the outgoing model. For 2024, Honda has tweaked the intake and exhaust systems for better breathability. Besides, the compression ratio of the engine is enhanced to 10.5:1 along with a revised valve timing. Further, fuel injection maps have also been updated.

As a result of all the above-mentioned changes, the engine pushes out 7% higher torque. The twin-pot motor now churns out 100.5 bhp at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 112 Nm at 5,500 rpm, up from 103 Nm. There are two transmission options available including a six-speed manual and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Honda has also upgraded the Africa Twin’s hardware. It now gets a 19-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear unit. The wire-spoked units are wrapped in 110/80 front and 150/70 rear tyres, respectively. Both units get a Showa-sourced suspension setup comprising 45mm USD front forks, and a rear mono-shock. The only difference is that the Adventure Sports ES variant benefits from an electronically controlled suspension.

2024 Honda Africa Twin: Expected India launch?

Manufacturers filing design patents in a particular country, does not guarantee a market launch. However, since the Africa Twin is already on sale in India, there is a good chance Honda will bring this flagship adventure bike to the country sometime in the future, possibly sometime later this year.

The fact that Honda has patented the design in India could hint towards the company locally assembling the bike in the country. Currently, the Africa Twin is fully imported to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).
