7th Pay Commission News: There’s good news for central employees as their wait can finally be over soon. The implementation date for the Dearness Allowance (DA Hike) from July 2024 has been confirmed and is expected to be announced by the end of September. Based on the AICPI-IW index data from January to June 2024, it has been decided that employees will receive a 3 percent increase in dearness allowance starting from July 2024, following a 1.5-point rise in the June AICPI index, claimed Zee Business report.
The AICPI index data from January to June 2024 has clarified the extent of the increase in dearness allowance. Central employees and pensioners under the 7th Pay Commission will directly benefit, with the dearness allowance set to reach 50 percent from January 2024.
DA Hike Calculation
The AICPI index saw a significant increase of 1.5 points in June, leading to a corresponding rise in the dearness allowance score.
Based on the AICPI-IW index data from January to June 2024, it has been decided that employees will receive a 3 percent increase in dearness allowance starting from July 2024. The June AICPI index recorded a jump from 139.9 points in May to 141.4 points, bringing the dearness allowance score to 53.36.
This clearly indicates a 3 percent increase in dearness allowance this time. In January, the index stood at 138.9 points, which had already pushed the dearness allowance to 50.84 percent, claimed the same report.
Dearness Allowance Date
Dearness allowance for central employees is to be announced at the end of September. But, it will be implemented only from July 2024. The payment for the intervening months will be in the form of arrears.
Under the 7th Pay Commission, 53 percent dearness allowance will be paid to central employees and pensioners. If sources of Zee Business are to be believed, it can be announced in the cabinet meeting to be held on September 25. This has been included in the agenda. Only a formal announcement is left.
Dearness Allowance Arrears Payment
If sources are to be believed, the dearness allowance will be announced by the end of September. But, it can be paid with the October salary.
In such a situation, employees and pensioners will also get arrears of 3 months. This arrears will be the difference between the previous dearness allowance and the new dearness allowance. Till now 50 percent DA and DR is being given. Now it will increase to 53 percent. In such a case, arrears of 3 percent will be paid. This will include July, August and September.
Dearness allowance (DA Hike calculation) will continue. There is no fixed rule regarding this. The last time this was done was when the base year was changed. Now there is no need to change the base year and there is no such recommendation. Therefore, the further calculation for central employees will be beyond 50 percent only.
