9,200 posts of teachers vacant in Gujarat secondary and higher secondary schools
During a session in the assembly on Monday, it was revealed that over 9,000 teaching posts were unfilled across government and grant-in-aid higher secondary and secondary schools in Gujarat.
Education Minister Kuber Dindor, in response to a query by Congress MLA Arvind Ladani, stated that as of March 2023, there were 5,940 vacancies specifically in 4,146 state-run and government-aided higher secondary schools.
Moreover, Education Minister Kuber Dindor disclosed that as of March 2023, there were 3,260 vacant teaching positions across state-run and government-aided secondary schools. This information was provided in response to a question posed by another Congress legislator, Gulabsinh Chauhan.
According to the data, Gujarat has a total of 671 government-run and 3,475 grant-in-aid higher secondary schools currently in operation.
TOTAL NUMBER OF VACANT POSITIONS
Ahmedabad district has the highest number of teacher vacancies at 581, followed by Kheda with 405 vacancies, Amreli with 307, Banaskantha with 299, Surat with 283, and Sabarkantha with 229, as per the information provided.
Out of the 3,260 vacant positions in secondary schools, 796 are in government-run schools, while 2,464 are in grant-in-aid schools.
The state government assured the House that these vacant posts would be filled “at the earliest”.
Further, in response to Congress MLA Geniben Thakor’s enquiry regarding the availability of playgrounds for school children, Dindor revealed that 6,206 schools of various standards, both government and private, are operational without any playgrounds.
