Bangladesh Crisis: Special Air India Flight Brings Back 205 Passengers, Including 6 Infants From Dhaka To Delhi
A special Air India flight successfully brought back 205 people, including six infants, from Dhaka to New Delhi on Wednesaday morning. This chartered flight, operated with an A321 neo aircraft, marked a significant rescue mission amid challenging circumstances. Air India operated the flight, which took off from the national capital without any passengers, at a very short notice despite infrastructure challenges at the airport there, said the official in the know of the developments.
Scheduled Operations Resumed:
Air India is set to resume its scheduled operations with two daily flights from Delhi to Dhaka starting Wednesday.
In addition to Air India, Vistara and IndiGo are also set to operate their services to Dhaka as per schedule. Vistara offers daily flights from Mumbai and three weekly services from Delhi to Dhaka, while IndiGo typically operates flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata to the Bangladesh capital.
Impact of Protests in Bangladesh:
Bangladesh is going through an unprecedented crisis with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was in power for 15 years, resigning and fleeing the country after a protest against a jobs quota scheme snowballed into a massive agitation against her and her government. More than 300 people have died during the past few tumultuous weeks.
Amid continuing attacks on police personnel in different parts of Bangladesh, the Inspector General of Bangladesh Police released a video message on Tuesday requesting the protesters, including the student leadership, to urge people to refrain from attacking the security forces.
“I request the honourable political leadership and the honourable student leadership to issue appeals to the people so that the members of the police force are not subjected to attacks,” said Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, IG, Bangladesh Police, in the video message.
He also complemented the Bangladesh Army for its “tireless attempts” to ensure the safety and security of the police personnel and their establishments,
“All attempts will be made to resolve the problems highlighted by the members of the Bangladesh Police. I request all the members of Bangladesh Police to perform their duties with strong determination and patience after ensuring their security. I hope the situation will normalise soon with cooperation from all,” he said.
