MS Dhoni Opens Up On Relationship With Virat Kohli, Says ‘There’s Still An Age Gap…’ | WATCH

New Delhi: Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni tagged Virat Kohli as one of the best players in world cricket. While Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, Kohli is still going strong at 35 and played a crucial part in India’s triumphant T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a brilliant half-century in the final against South Africa in Barbados.
Recently at an event, Dhoni was asked about his relationship with Kohli, the video of which went viral on social media. The five-time IPL-winning captain gave a straightforward answer. “We have been playing since 2008/09, there’s still an age gap. So I don’t know whether I would say like I am an older brother or colleague or whatever name you give it,” Dhoni said with a smile.
“But at the end of the day, we have been colleagues, you know, who played for India for a very long time. He has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket,” added the two-time World Cup-winning former Indian captain.

While Kohli is on a break from international cricket, there are still no clarity on Dhoni’s participation in the upcoming IPL. Following India’s T20 World Cup win in Barbados, Kohli featured in Men in Blue’s white-ball series against Sri Lanka. He is currently in London, spending time with family and will be next seen against Bangladesh in Tests at home.
On the other hand, Dhoni, who left CSK captaincy last year, is likely to make up his mind once the IPL 2025 retention rules comes to the fore. If retained by CSK, Dhoni is likely to go under the uncapped category since he has already retired from international cricket five years ago.
