2 Devotees Dead, 3 Seriously Injured Following Landslide At Vaishno Devi Track: Video Surfaces

Katra/Jammu: A landslide hit the new track to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine on Monday, 02 September 2024 resulting in serious injuries to at least three pilgrims.

The landslide hit the new track to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, said the officials adding that the landslide hit the route near Panchi, about three km ahead of Bhawan, at around 2.35 pm.

The official said a portion of an overhead iron structure was also damaged.

A rescue operation was launched immediately after the landslide and the three injured pilgrims, including a woman, were rushed to a hospital.

“Shooting stones and a landslide have occurred on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine track. Disaster Management team of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board have reached the spot. More details are awaited,” said the CEO of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.

According to the preliminary information, two women have died and a girl has been grievously injured in the incident, said Deputy Commissioner of Reasi Vishesh Paul Mahajan adding that senior police and civil administration officers have rushed to the spot, and further details are awaited, reported PTI.

Meanwhile, Katra SDM Piyush Dhotra said, “A landslide occurred in which two people lost their lives and one person was injured. The dead bodies and injured are being brought to the hospital.”
