New Expressways In Uttar Pradesh: Here’s List Of 6 Upcoming Highways For Better Connectivity; Check Route, Map
Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a hub for connectivity development, with a focus on enhancing transportation infrastructure. The state is witnessing significant progress, from the establishment of the new State Capital Region to the introduction of improved routes spanning across the region. Highlighting the latest developments, here are six upcoming expressways in the state that are set to revolutionize travel and boost economic activities. These projects, including the Purvanchal Expressway and Ganga Expressway, aim to reduce travel time between major cities in Uttar Pradesh and facilitate better economic cooperation.
The Purvanchal Expressway will seamlessly connect to the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, while the Ganga Expressway will link Farrukhabad and Jewar Airport through two additional expressways.
Ganga Expressway
The Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh is on track to become the country’s second-largest project of its kind, with a scheduled completion date of December 2024. The primary objective is to finalize the construction before Mahakumbh 2025, showcasing the state’s commitment to infrastructure development. Spanning an impressive 594 km, this expressway will significantly improve connectivity between Eastern and Western Uttar Pradesh.
The ambitious project aims to link the Bijauli locality in Meerut with Judapur Dandu in Prayagraj, strategically connecting key regions of the state. The six-lane expressway will feature 14 major bridges, 7 railway overbridges, 32 flyovers, and a 3.5-km-long airstrip in the Jalalabad area of Shahjahanpur district, designed for emergency landings of fighter planes.
Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is spearheading the construction of the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway, a game-changer in the realm of transportation. This transformative project aims to slash the travel time between Kanpur and Lucknow to a mere 45-50 minutes, providing commuters with a swift and efficient journey. According to reports, the project is to be completed by March/April 2025
Passing through 42 villages in Lucknow and Unnao, this 6-lane expressway is set to enhance connectivity and accessibility for residents in these areas. Currently, the 75 km trip between the two cities takes a staggering four hours due to construction-related diversions and congested narrow roads, leading to frustrating traffic snarls.
Noida-Kanpur Expressway
NHAI is embarking on a significant infrastructure project to construct an expressway linking Noida to Kanpur, complemented by a 60-kilometer connector road to Hapur. This decision stems from the need to adjust the original plan of connecting Kanpur and Hapur to integrate with the upcoming Jewar International Airport. The proposed expressway will traverse the existing GT Road from Kanpur to Kannauj before transforming into a Green Field Expressway beyond Kannauj. This route will pass through Aligarh and culminate in a connection to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway at Sirsa in Greater Noida. A dedicated loop near Jewar Airport is also in the works to streamline vehicle pick-up and drop-off services, enhancing overall convenience for travelers. It is set to become operational by 2026.
Gorakhpur Link Expressway
The 91.3-km long link expressway connecting Gorakhpur directly with Purvanchal Expressway is nearing completion, set to open to the public in the next 3-4 months. With 98% of the work done, toll tax collection provisions are in place at two main plazas in Jaitpur and Salarpur. This development not only enhances connectivity between Azamgarh and Gorakhpur but also benefits travelers heading to Ambedkarnagar and Sant Kabir Nagar. The strategic positioning of the expressway facilitates smoother and quicker travel, boosting regional accessibility and economic growth.
Link Expressway connecting Agra and Purvanchal Expressways
The bustling traffic between Lucknow’s Purvanchal Expressway and Agra Expressway is soon to be a thing of the past. Plans are underway to introduce a link expressway that will provide a seamless journey, bypassing the congestion and delays. Furthermore, another proposed link expressway is set to connect the Ganga Expressway to the Agra-Lucknow Expressway via Farrukhabad.
With the integration of these new expressways, including the Chitrakoot Link Expressway, Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure and connectivity are poised for a significant transformation.
Buxar-Bhagalpur Expressway
The recent announcement of the Union Budget 2024-25 has sparked excitement and optimism, particularly surrounding the development of the Buxar-Bhagalpur expressway. This new expressway is set to revolutionize travel in the region, significantly reducing travel time between Buxar and Bhagalpur to just four hours. Moreover, the impact will extend further, with travel time between Patna and Lucknow expected to decrease to 5-6 hours, and Bhagalpur to Lucknow to 8-9 hours.
