Injured David Warner ruled out of 3rd New Zealand T20I, likely to be fit for IPL
Injury has ruled out David Warner for the third and final T20I against New Zealand slated to held on Sunday. The experienced opener, is likely to be fit before the 17th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) begins., Cricket Australia has confirmed.
Warner is dealing with groin soreness and hence won’t participate in the final match against the Kiwis.
CA said that Warner’s absence from the third T20I and stated that he will require a brief recovery period to overcome the injury but is expected to be available for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Australia have an unassailable lead 2-0 lead in the third and the final T20I which will be played on Sunday at Eden Park. Warner could not play the second T20I on Friday as well due to the same issue.
Warner’s crucial knock in Wellington
The veteran cricketer was part of the opening match of the series in Wellington on Wednesday, contributing a crucial 20-ball-32 in his team’s six-wicket win. His knock was laced with a lone boundary and three maximums and came at a strike rate of 160.
Meanwhile, New Zealand team also suffered a huge blow before the final match of the series as Devon Conway has also been ruled out for the final game against the Aussies. Conway sustained a blow on his left thumb while wicketkeeping from an Adam Milne delivery in the second over of the match which clicked over 140 kmph. He was forced to leave the field and did not come out to field or bat for the rest part of the game. He was declared out of the game due to a fracture.
New Zealand Cricket on Saturday confirmed that Conway will return home to Wellington to see a hand specialist to ascertain the extent of the injury to his left thumb.
