Ratan Tata, the Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group, who helped transform the conglomerate into a global powerhouse, passed away on late Wednesday night at the age of 86. Ratan Tata’s demise, which has sent the whole country into mourning, was confirmed by Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran in a statement, describing the beloved business tycoon as a “friend, mentor and guide”.
How did Ratan Tata die?
According to earlier reports, Ratan Tata suffered from low blood pressure, however, in an October 7 social media post, the veteran industrialist dismissed reports of being hospitalised due to blood pressure issues, assuring his followers on X that he was undergoing regular tests for age and related medical conditions.
“I am currently undergoing medical check-ups due to my age-related medical conditions. There is no cause for concern. I remain in good spirits,” Tata had said in his post on X, while urging the public and the media to refrain from “spreading misinformation” about his health condition after he was taken to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.
While its still unclear what actually led to Ratan Tata’s demise, its being speculated that low-blood pressure, coupled with age-related health issues, are among the causes.
Ratan Tata last rites
Ratan Tata was a member of the Parsi (Zoroastrian) community, but his last rites will not be conducted as per Parsi customs. Ratan Tata, India’s most beloved billionaire, who passed away on Wednesday night, will be cremated as per his wishes, at an electric crematorium in Worli, Mumbai.
Ratan Tata’s body was kept in a portable cold storage mortuary at the the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) till 4 PM today to allow people to offer their tributes. The industrialist’s mortal remains were being taken from NCPA to Worli for final rites when last reports came in.
