The government of Saudi Arabia has launched a significant initiative for expatriate workers. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) has granted a 60-day grace period, from December 1 to January 29, allowing workers to correct their status and transfer their sponsorship.
According to an Aaj TV report, the MHRSD has provided the ‘Qiwa’ platform for absentee workers to readjust their status and transfer their sponsorship to a new employer. The MHRSD has also sent a text message to all expatriate workers, aiming to legalize their job status and provide new employment opportunities.
The Saudi government’s aim is to bring stability in the labour segment. The government also wants the workers to follow the rules and guidelines of the Saudi government. It is being claimed that the ‘Qiwa’  platform has eased the jobs of workers and employers.
The MHRSD has said that the workers can easily get their certificate from the ‘Qiwa’ portal. A worker has to login in order to get all the documents related to employment. After, they will have to click in the services section to request the certificate. The worker has to provide the name of the employee and duration of employment. Later, the employer will confirm the request and the worker will get the certificate.
The Saudi government states that foreign workers often leave their jobs without approval, causing difficulties for companies and leading to situations of instability
