Skoda Auto’s first-ever compact SUV to hit Indian roads by 2025; targets 100,000 annual sales by 2026
Skoda Auto is poised to make significant strides in the Indian market with the launch of an all-new compact SUV scheduled for 2025. This will mark the company’s inaugural entry into this category in India.
According to the Czech automobile manufacturer’s CEO, Klaus Zellmer, ‘India is crucial to the global growth of Skoda Auto, both because of its own market strength and as a development and manufacturing base for our expansion in new markets, including ASEAN and the Middle East.’
Zellmer, in an interview with CNBC-TV18, highlighted that Skoda has more than doubled its sales in India since 2021 and is now taking the next step by expanding its range of models designed for customers in India and internationally. He expressed confidence that the expanding Skoda portfolio will contribute to achieving a market share for the Volkswagen family of brands of around 5% in India by 2030.
The new compact SUV will be the third all-new product on the MQB-AO-IN platform, a sub-4-metre SUV that utilizes the excise benefits for sub 4-metre cars available in India. This will serve as the new entry-level product in Skoda Auto India’s fleet, with the company intending to penetrate deeper and wider into Tier 3 and smaller markets with the car.
