Date of monthly Shivratri of Magh month
According to the Panchang, the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Magh month will be from 11:17 am on Thursday, 08 February to 08:02 am on Friday, 09 February. Since the puja during the monthly Shivratri fast is done at night, this fast will be observed on 8th February, on Thursday.
Auspicious time of worship
In the monthly Shivratri fast, Lord Shiva is worshiped during the night. On February 8 the auspicious time for worship in the first Prahar will be from 6 pm to 9 pm, in the second Prahar between 9 to 12 at night, in the third Prahar between 12 to 3 night, and worship in the fourth and last Prahar will be between 3 am to 6 am.
Masik Shivratri Puja Vidhi
– Those observing the monthly Shivratri fast, should wake up early in the morning on 8th February, Thursday and take a bath after that they should take a resolution to observe the fast and worshipping.
– One must strictly follow the rules related to fasting throughout the day. These include speaking less, keeping control over your emotions, particularly your anger, and avoiding negative thoughts. One should only consume fruits during the fast.
– Start the puja by installing Shivling at a clean place in the house in the first half of the night i.e. between 6 to 9 pm.
– One should offer flowers and then light a lamp of pure ghee. Perform the Abhishek of the Shivalinga with Panchamrit and then with water.
– Offer things like Abeer, Gulal, Roli, Bilva Patra, Dhatura etc. one by one to the deity. One should then worship Lord Shiva similarly, in the other three Prahars also.
– After the worship of the fourth prahar, perform aarti of Lord Shiva and offer him bhog.
It is believed that by fasting and worshiping in this way, all your desires and wishes are fulfilled.
