Epic Games Has Been Unbanned By Apple Once Again
Epic Games has received the green light to launch its iOS app store in the European Union after Apple initially revoked its developer license.
This decision was swiftly reversed by Apple following an inquiry from the European Commission, according to a report by The Verge.
In a recent update on its website, Epic Games announced that Apple has committed to reinstating its developer account. This means that the company can proceed with its plans to introduce the Epic Games Store and reintroduce Fortnite to iOS users in Europe.
Apple has confirmed the reversal in an email to The Verge, with spokesperson Fred Sainz quoted in The Verge report as saying, “Following conversations with Epic, they have committed to follow the rules, including our Digital Markets Act policies.” As a result, Epic Sweden AB has been permitted to re-sign the developer agreement and has been approved into the Apple Developer Programme.
The European Commission also claimed credit for restoring Epic’s developer licence. Commissioner Thierry Breton expressed delight in a post, writing, “I note with satisfaction that following our contacts, Apple decided to backtrack its decision on Epic’s exclusion.”
