Renault Duster Based Dacia Bigster Spotted Ahead Of Global Debut; Will It Be Launched In India?

Dacia Bigster, a seven-seater SUV has been spotted for the first time, signalling its global debut later this year. The Dacia Bigster is based on the Renault Duster and it will first be introduced under the Dacia brand name, followed by a Renault variant of the Bigster.

Dacia Bigster – Design

The Bigster SUV will be sharing its platform with the Duster SUV as both models will use the CMF-B platform. This platform is common in many Renault-Nissan products worldwide. The Bigster is expected to measure around 4.6 metres in length, approximately 300mm longer than the new Duster, with a slightly longer wheelbase and larger rear door similar to the Hyundai Alcazar. Design cues and body panels will be shared with the Duster, with the Bigster boasting rugged looks and interior elements from the Duster, alongside upmarket materials and additional creature comforts to justify its higher price tag.

Dacia Bigster – Powertrain

Talking about the powertrain, there has been no confirmation on the engine specs of the upcoming seven seater SUV. However, the Bigster is likely to be equipped with similar engine choices as the Duster SUV. It is anticipated to be offered with a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol-hybrid or a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. The 1.6-litre engine includes two electric motors, a 1.2kWh battery allowing for pure electric driving for up to 80 per cent of the time and an automatic gearbox. The 1.2-litre unit delivers a power output of 130 bhp and is paired with a 48V starter motor. Although the Duster will be offered with a 1.0-litre petrol-LPG option in select markets, there is no diesel variant currently. The Bigster will offer 4×2 and 4×4 options, depending on the market, with terrain modes like Auto, Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-road, and Eco.

Dacia Bigster – India Launch

Renault Duster SUV will be hitting the Indian market in the second half of 2025, followed by the launch of the Bigster SUV. Post its official launch, the Bigster will compete with SUVs like the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, and MG Hector Plus, while the Duster will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, and Toyota Hyryder.
