UP woman marries own brother to get benefits of wedding scheme after groom fails to turn up
A major case of fraud has come to light related to the Uttar Pradesh Government’s Mass Marriage Scheme. As per the police, one of the brides who was to get married at a mass wedding, reportedly married her brother after the groom failed to turn up in Maharajganj city of the state.
The incident occurred on March 5 during the event. The bride, Preeti Yadav, was allegedly persuaded to marry her brother Krishna by some middlemen, when the groom, Ramesh Yadav did not reach the mass wedding venue on time.
The couple was already married earlier
The police further said that both Preeti and Ramesh were already married previously. The couple decided to get married again to get Rs 51,000 which is given to beneficiaries of the wedding scheme. A probe was ordered, soon after the case came to light. The police have filed a case against the siblings in the incident.
Sharing further details, the authorities said that a village development officer has also been suspended in the matter. An action has also been initiated against another officer who reportedly verified the documents of the brother and sister before marriage.
Uttar Pradesh Government provides Rs 51,000 under the scheme
