9-year-old boy kidnapped and murdered in Thane by tailor who demanded Rs 23 lakh ransom

In a tragic incident that unfolded in the village of Goregaon, located in Thane, Maharashtra, a 9-year-old boy named Ibad, after completing his evening prayers at the local mosque, was abducted by a local tailor named Salman Maulvi as he exited the premises.

The young boy was later found dead, hidden in a sack in Salman’s backyard.

The motive behind the horrific crime, as revealed by the police, was Salman’s desire for money to build a new house. Living in the same neighbuorhood as Ibad, Salman plotted to kidnap the boy with the intention of extorting a ransom of Rs 23 lakh from his family.

When Ibad did not return home after prayers, his family grew concerned and initiated a frantic search. Their worst fears were confirmed when Ibad’s father, Muddasir, received a chilling ransom call demanding the exorbitant amount for his son’s safe return. However, the call immediately ended, leaving the family in anguish, NDTV reported.

Police launch search operation

Upon learning of Ibad’s disappearance, both the police and villagers launched a search operation. Despite the kidnapper’s attempts to evade capture by changing SIM cards, the police eventually tracked Salman’s residence on Monday afternoon. What they discovered shook the community to its core – Ibad’s body concealed in a sack behind Salman’s house.

Accused arrested

Thane Superintendent of Police, Dr DS Swami, said, “After the kidnap, there was a ransom call made. The accused is in our custody. Investigation is being done behind the motive for murdering the child.” Salman’s brother, Safuan Maulvi, was also arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder. While Salman is identified as the prime suspect, investigations are ongoing to determine the involvement of other individuals, including family members, in this heinous crime, according to senior Badlapur police officer Govind Patil.
