IPL 2024: Sam Curran Dejected After PBKS Succumb to Another Last-Over Defeat Against MI
PBKS captain Sam Curran suffered a loss as his team lost yet another last-over thriller in the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League. Curran, speaking to the broadcaster after the match, quipped that the franchise has come to love these final over contests.
This was PBKS’ 5th loss in the final over of the match and also their third at home in Mullanpur. PBKS finisher Ashutosh Sharma almost pulled off an incredible heist against MI that day, hitting 61 off just 28 balls. After recovering from 14/4, PBKS were almost chasing a ball in the final four overs of the game, but Ashutosh was run out trying to hit a six in the 18th over of the match.
“Another close one. This team (PBKS) loves close games. Thanks for Ashutosh (Sharma). Well done to get close. Gutted, but a great effort to get that close,” Sam Curran said after the match. The PBKS captain praised the Indian uncapped duo of Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh for their repeated heroics in the Indian Premier League. Shashank hit 41 off 25 balls and provided an early boost in the PBKS chase.
An absolute rollercoaster of a game in Mullanpur comes to an end! 🎢
And it’s the Mumbai Indians who emerge victorious in a nerve-wracking contest 🔥👏

Shashank was in the middle when PBKS were 14 for 4 and had to counter the MI bowling which was breathing fire. He would go on to play a calculated innings of 41 runs off 25 balls, which included two boundaries and three sixes. Ashutosh was more destructive in his approach and scored 28 off just 10 balls, including an incredible six off Bumrah with a superb sweep shot. Confidence was definitely lost from the night train beating. “Both batsmen have incredible confidence in their abilities. Hopefully, in the next few games, we can win close games,” Curran said. After the loss, PBKS are 9th in the league table with 4 points from 7 matches.
