IPL 2024: Virat Kohli Expresses Frustration Over Umpiring Call on High Full Toss Dismissal
RCB’s star batsman Virat Kohli was left frustrated with the match officials after he was dismissed by KKR fast bowler Harshit Rana’s over at Eden Gardens on Sunday in the match between the sides in the 2024 edition of the IPL. Kohli was asked to go back to the dugout as Rana scalped the batsman, caught on his own ball, on a delivery that was clearly deemed to be more than the permitted waist height. The 35-year-old was shocked before the ball landed safely in the bowler’s hands when the on-field umpires did not signal a no-ball, even though he had clearly met the ball above his waist.
The Indian batsman opted for his DRS review, but the upstairs decision ruled him out as he was well outside the batting crease and sinking the path of the pacer’s slower ball. He expressed his displeasure with the on-field umpire’s decision before walking back to the hut in despair. RCB openers Kohli and Faf du Plessis gave their team a good start as they scored 27 runs in the first two overs of the chase, while KKR set the visitors a target of 223 runs to win. However, Kohli got KKR the breakthrough they needed.
Feel sorry for that #ViratKohli unusual dismissal.
Surely it was a No ball.#IPL2024 #RCBvsKKR pic.twitter.com/C21HAf6TiM— Shifa Khan (@Shahfai94130803) April 22, 2024
RCB won the toss and elected to field first as KKR broke the 200-run mark again this season, as they were provided by Englishman Phil Salt, who scored 48 off just 14 balls. Skipper Shreyas Iyer top-scored with 50 runs off 36 balls, while Rinku Singh contributed 24 runs off 16 balls. KKR crossed the 200-run mark thanks to a late foray from middle-order batsman Ramandeep Singh, who scored 24 off just 9 balls, and finished the innings unbeaten with Andre Russell, who scored 27 off 20 balls.
