Marcus Stoinis scored a brilliant century to dismiss Ruturaj Gaikwad as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 6 wickets in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday. Stoinis’ innings was in direct contrast to Gaikwad’s silky smooth innings. Stoinis (124, 63b, 13×4, 6×6) chased the Lucknow Super Giants to 213/4 in the end. Gaekwad (108, 60b, 12×4, 3×6) and Shivam Dubey (66, 27b, 3×4, 7×6) added 104 runs for the fourth wicket to take Chennai Super Kings to a competitive 210. /4.

With the win, Lucknow handed Chennai their first home defeat of the season. This is also the most successful chase at the venue. Thus, LSG also scored a rare home and away win against Chennai as they won the match at the Ekana Stadium a few days ago.

Stoinis scored an unbeaten 124 off 63 balls with 13 fours and six sixes, the highest individual score in a run chase in the IPL. Earlier, skipper Gaekwad’s unbeaten 108 off 60 balls helped Chennai Super Kings post a challenging score of 210 for 4. Gaikwad’s innings, his second IPL century, was studded with 12 fours and three sixes. Shivam Dubey scored 66 runs off 27 balls and hit seven sixes. Matt Henry took one wicket for 28 runs for LSG.
