Gemini AI App Now Available for Older Android Devices: Here’s the Scoop
Google Gemini, formerly called Bard, has been in the headlines for various reasons. Although the company previously restricted the AI-powered chatbot to Android 12 or above, it is now accessible on most Android smartphones. But according to a new claim by Android Police, older Android 10 and Android 11-powered smartphones can still use the latest Google Gemini APK (v1.0.626720042). Although Google seems to have sensibly updated the Play Store listing for Gemini to reflect the update, the official support website for the Gemini app from the company still states that Android 12 or later is required.
Millions of users who are still using older phones will now be able to access Gemini thanks to the most recent upgrade. Earlier, Android 10 and Android 11 users had to access the AI chatbot online. Google Gemini, when installed, will take on the role of the company’s feature-rich Google Assistant; However, AI chatbots still use previous digital assistants to process some queries.
In February, Google replaced its existing Google Assistant software with a Gemini AI application exclusive to Android handsets. However, the software can only be used with Android 12 and at the time of availability. In its most recent update, Google updated the Play Store’s minimum requirements section for the Gemini app, letting users know that the software is compatible with Android 10 and Android 11. To refresh your memory, Android 11 was announced in 2020 a few months after the COVID-19 pandemic, but Android 10 was introduced back in 2019. Google has been working hard to add new features to Gemini for the past few months.
Instead of asking the chatbot to completely rewrite the content, the company released a new tool last month that allows users to change parts of the generated responses to suit their preferences. Additionally, according to a recent study, Gemini for Android may soon receive real-time responses similar to ChatGPT. Apple seems to be interested in using Google’s AI chatbot on iPhones in addition to Samsung, which could provide it with a much-needed boost in the fiercely competitive AI market.
