He almost ensured defeat for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), throwing his body on the line to propel the Royals to a thrilling victory. But veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar had the last laugh. Needing two to win off the last ball, the right-arm pacer bowled Powell for a diving yorker to leave the visitors stranded on 200. Hyderabad won by 1 run at the Uppal Stadium, much to the delight of their fans.

Powell reviewed the decision but ball-tracking resulted in only three reds. Bhuvneshwar certainly snatched the victory from the jaws of the Royals at the last moment, leading to the narrowest margin of victory for SRH in IPL history by 1 run. Emotions ran high in the Hyderabad camp. They were delighted and even owned by Kavya Maran who jumped in the air after the sensational win.

A jubilant Pat Cummins praised his bowlers for creating a thriller in Hyderabad. SRH moved back into the top four with 12 points and a net run rate of +0.072. “It is T20 cricket. Anything can happen, Bhuvi executes that last ball. You try to take some wickets in the middle. Natarajan is a good yorker bowler, fortunately we got some wickets. Played a few games here, thought 200 could be chased. He (Nitish Reddy) sums up situations very well, he’s fantastic, great in the field, bowls some overs with the ball as well,” Cummins said in the post-match presentation.

SRH won by 1 run
Nitish Reddy (76*) and Travis Head (58) scored half-centuries to help Sunrisers Hyderabad post 201/3 after electing to bat. Head and Reddy put on a 57-ball 96 to revive SRH’s innings while Henrik Klaassen (42 not out off 19) provided the final flurry. In reply, Ryan Parag (77) and opener Yashaswi Jaiswal (67) put on a 133-run partnership in the first over after Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets.
