T20 World Cup 2024: Hardik Pandya Joins Indian Teammates In NY, Trains For First Time With National Team In Seven Months

New Delhi: Hardik Pandya, who did not travel with the first batch of the Indian contingent to the USA for the T20 World Cup 2024, has joined his teammates in New York on Wednesday, the all-rounder confirmed by posting pictures on social media. Following Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2024 campaign, Pandya kept a low-key and flew to London to concentrate on his training. While all his teammates flew to USA from India, Pandya directly linked up with the squad from the United Kingdom.
Notably, this will be India’s first assignment with the national team after he was ruled out of the ODI World Cup 2023 midway due to injury. He slipped on the bowling track against Bangladesh, thus injuring his ankle. As a result, Pandya missed the white-ball series against Australia, South Africa and Afghanistan.
Following the injury, Pandya worked on his fitness and returned to cricket in IPL 2024 as Mumbai Indians captain.

Earlier, Pandya endured tough time as Mumbai Indians captain in IPL 2024, replacing Rohit Sharma. The all-rounder was a victim of constant criticism from the fans and were booed whenever he took the field of play. The negativity off the field also impacted Mumbai Indians’ performance as the five-time champions finished at the bottom of the table with just four wins from 14 games.
Not just the team’s performance, Pandya’s individual show also took a hit. In 14 games, Pandya managed just 216 runs and took 11 wickets. However, Pandya boasts a good record in ICC tournaments for India and captain Rohit Sharma would want the same from his deputy.
India’s Squad For T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma (captain), Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj.
