OLED MacBooks on the Horizon? Apple Might Ditch Mini-LED by 2026

According to a report by market research firm OMIDA, Apple is likely to launch its MacBook Pro with an OLED display in 2026. The report also suggests that consumer demand for OLED displays in mobile devices such as smartphones, tabs or laptops will grow by 37 percent between 2023-31. Apple’s Pro models include their most powerful Apple Silicon processors, but the company is yet to unveil its first MacBook Pro with an OLED display, which will offer users better picture quality.

“Apple is likely to include OLED in its MacBook Pro models as early as 2026,” said Ricky Park, senior principal analyst at the research firm, as quoted by Gadgets 360. OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) screens control each pixel independently, resulting in more accurate color reproduction compared to LCD and LED displays. This display also offers high contrast, fast response time, better viewing angles and great design flexibility.

However, there is no official notification from Apple regarding OLED display coming in the next version of MacBook Pro.

Meanwhile, Apple recently launched its iPad Pro model with an OLED display, the company’s first tablet to feature an OLED screen. According to a recent report, the tech giant expects to ship 9 million units of the iPad Pro models. OMIDA’s report also indicates that expected demand for the Ultra Retina XDR OLED-equipped iPad Pro is expected to triple in 2024. There was also speculation that Apple is planning to add OLED displays to its entire iPad lineup soon. This includes both the iPad Air and iPad Mini versions. This development could increase demand for OLED tablets to 30 million units by 2029.

A recent report also suggested that Samsung has started developing a new 8-inch display pattern for the iPad mini version and that Apple will update their iPad lineup with OLED technology by 2026. Also, it was recently reported that Apple is gearing up to adopt the foldable trend with its next iPad version in the future. The Elec, previously reported that the tech giant is in the planning stages for a compact foldable iPad version (roughly 7 to 8-inches) that the company is likely to introduce to the market between 2026 and 2027.
