Dacia Spring EV global debut on Feb 21 – The Renault Kwid EV?
Dacia is all set to unveil the updated Spring EV to the world on February 21, which means that Renault could finally have an EV version of the Kwif for India.
The Spring is the Dacia version of the Renault Kwid, similar to how the Dacia Duster is to the Renault Duster.
The Dacia Spring and the Renault Kwid EV have been on sale on the global market for a while now, however, the Kwid EV never made it to India despite showcasing a concept during the 2020 Auto Expo.
In terms of design, the new Dacia Spring EV borrows a lot of inspiration from the Duster, with a new set of headlights, grille design, and a few bits towards the rear. The Spring will retain the Kwid’s unique character of having a high ground clearance, giving it a mini SUV stance.
In terms of the electric powertrain, the Renault Kwid is sold globally with a 26.8kWh battery pack that develops 43bhp and 125N of torque, with a claimed range of 230km. The battery pack can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in under an hour with a 30kW DC fast charger.
The Renault-Nissan alliance announced new models for India last year, including two affordable electric vehicles and with the debut of the new Dacia Spring, the electric version of the Kwid is most likely to be one of the affordable EVs that will make it to India.
