Moscow arrests Russian-US citizen on suspicion of treason
A 33-year-old woman with dual Russian-US citizenship was arrested in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg on suspicion of treason, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said Tuesday.
The woman, a resident of Los Angeles, California, was providing financial assistance to a foreign state, thereby carrying out activities against Russia’s security, the FSB told Russian state agency TASS. “Since February 2022, she has been proactively collecting funds in the interests of a Ukrainian organization, which were subsequently directed by the Ukrainian armed forces toward the acquisition of tactical medical items, equipment and ammunition,” added the agency, which did not reveal the woman’s identity. She also repeatedly took part in public actions in support of the Kiev regime in the US, according to the FSB.
The FSB said that criminal proceedings had been initiated against the woman for treason, a crime punishable in Russia with between 12 and 20 years in prison.
