All-New Indian Scout Model: A New Chapter Begins April 2
Indian Motorcycles is gearing up for a significant update to its Scout model lineup, with plans to unveil an entirely new Scout motorcycle on April 2. This announcement marks the first major overhaul for the Scout series since its introduction almost ten years ago.
The current Scout, known for combining traditional cruiser aesthetics with a modern liquid-cooled engine, is available in four variants in India.
A Look at the Current Indian Scout
The present model of the Indian Scout features a 1,133cc V-Twin engine, delivering a power output of 100hp and 97Nm of torque at 5,600rpm. This engine, also the basis for the FTR’s 1,203cc motor, showcases Indian Motorcycle’s shift towards more contemporary engineering while maintaining its iconic cruiser design. The Scout’s design is minimalist, with a low stance and a comfortable, feet-forward riding position typical of cruisers.
However, the bike’s limited suspension travel, 76mm for the standard variant and 51mm for the others, along with its low ground clearance, presents challenges in navigating India’s rugged roads and high speed-breakers. These aspects have made the current Scout’s ride quality less than ideal for the Indian terrain.
Anticipations for the New Scout Model
With the upcoming all-new Scout model, enthusiasts and potential buyers are expecting significant improvements across the board. There’s speculation that the new Scout might adopt the FTR’s engine, potentially addressing the cubic capacity gap when compared to rivals like the Harley-Davidson Sportster S.
The pricing for the current Indian Scout lineup begins at Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom, India), and with only five dealerships across the country, the Scout models have occupied a niche segment in India’s large-capacity cruiser market. The introduction of an all-new Scout model could potentially expand its appeal and market share in India.
