Apple Vision Pro will be available in China this year, CEO Tim Cook confirms

For years, virtual reality headsets have captivated our imagination. When Apple unveiled its inaugural VR headset, the Apple Vision Pro, fans eagerly awaited what the Cupertino-based tech giant had crafted.

Last year, during the initial unveiling of the Vision Pro, Apple made waves by granting selected journalists exclusive access to try out and explore its capabilities. The media reviews were largely positive and that had generated even more excitement amongst people.

The VR headset went up for sale in the US last month. And now, it is soon coming to China as well.

According to a CNBC report, Cook announced to Chinese state media that the Vision Pro headset will debut in China this year.

The report adds that in a video shared on CCTV’s Weibo account, the Apple CEO confirmed the launch of the Vision Pro in China when asked. Reports also suggest that the Visio Pro might launch in China in May or June.

During his recent visit to China, Cook toured a new Apple store in Shanghai and participated in the China Development Forum in Beijing. Apple faces various challenges in China, including a decline in sales in the greater China region by almost 13 percent in the December quarter, amidst increased competition in the smartphone market.

Despite these challenges, Cook expressed confidence in Apple’s commitment to the Chinese market, talking about his admiration for China’s potential and culture. He said, “I love China, I love being here, I love the people and the culture. Every time I come here, I am reminded that anything is possible here.”

In June last year, Cook unveiled the Vision Pro and termed it as a “new type of computer.” The VR headset is priced at USD 3,499.

The base model of the Vision Pro comes with 256GB of storage and includes various accessories such as a Solo Knit Band, Dual Loop Band, a light seal, two light seal cushions, Apple Vision Pro cover, polishing cloth, battery, and a USB-C charging cable with a USB-C power adapter.

The device comes with a 4K display for each eye, allowing users to switch between augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) with a side-mounted dial. The headset runs on a dual-chip setup featuring Apple’s in-house M2 chip and the new R1 chip dedicated to processing data from built-in sensors, cameras, and microphones. In addition to this, the device supports eye, head, and hand tracking, enabling users to navigate the interface without a controller.

Additionally, the headset runs on visionOS, Apple’s new operating system, which promises to work seamlessly with most iPhone and iPad apps without requiring additional development efforts from app developers.
