Apple’s Latest Venture: Integrating Robots Into Household Tech – Here’s the Scoop

Apple is always looking for new tech advancements and categories where it can succeed. According to recent reports the company has abandoned the electric car project but seems to be lining up something bigger in the near future. A Bloomberg report claims that Apple is eyeing the home robotics segment which could include a robot that will act as your assistant at home and follow your instructions.

The company is also planning a robot with arms that sits on a tabletop, the report adds. Apple is using its hardware engineering, its AI and machine learning divisions to come up with product designs and solutions that can serve this segment. Having said that, the robotics arm that Apple is likely to set up has no concrete timeline for any launch as most plans are in the early stages of research and development. Apple envisions home robots helping you with tasks like washing dishes and possibly cooking, reminding us of Rosie, the talking robot in the popular Jetsons cartoon show of yesteryear.

It’s interesting to see Apple shift the post from electric cars to robotics. Bringing EVs to market would have made a lot of sense for the company as the technology caters to a wider range of customers, giving Tesla a tough run. Rumors of Apple ending that project and now working on robotics suggest it wants to compete in the tech circuit where the likes of Boston Dynamics have shown a need and possibly demand for robots in the home and even in factories.

Having said that, Apple’s alleged plans in home robotics are unlikely to be a cakewalk as the physics of developing an architecture to move the motors and arms along with the display innards seems like a challenge of its own. And the bigger question is how Apple intends to position these products and whether it even sees people spending big on tech that could become mainstream in the next few years.
