Arjuna Bark Tea: Expert Lists Its Benefits For Lowering Cholesterol Levels
People with high cholesterol levels need to be cautious about their diet and lifestyle. If not controlled timely, it can lead to various complications, such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease.
The good news is that there are natural remedies that can help lower your cholesterol levels and promote your overall health. One such ingredient is arjuna bark tea, which contains essential nutrients that help in managing cholesterol levels.
We spoke to Dr Ganesh Chaudhary, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), PHC, Darbhanga, Bihar, who listed the benefits of arjuna bark tea and how to add it to your daily routine.
Understanding High Cholesterol
Before diving into the benefits of arjuna bark tea, it’s important to understand how important it is to manage high cholesterol levels.
“Elevated cholesterol, particularly Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, often termed ‘bad’ cholesterol, can contribute to the accumulation of plaque in the arteries, leading to atherosclerosis and an increased risk of heart disease and stroke”, said Dr Chaudhary. Therefore, adopting measures to regulate cholesterol levels is crucial for maintaining optimal cardiovascular health.
What Is Arjuna Bark Tea?
“Arjuna bark has been a staple in ayurvedic medicine due to its bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and antioxidants.
These constituents are believed to provide various health benefits, particularly in heart health”, said Dr Chaudhary. The medicinal properties of arjuna bark are harnessed in a tea made by steeping the dried bark in hot water, providing a natural cholesterol-lowering solution.
As per findings from a clinical trial published in the Journal of the Association of Physicians of India, the bark of the arjuna tree demonstrates notable hypocholesterolemic effects and antioxidant properties comparable to those of vitamin E.
