Australian billionaire Clive Palmer unveils plan to build ‘Titanic II’, vessel to sail on 2027

The intriguing story of Titanic, an iconic ship that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912 leading to approximately 1,500 casualties, must have prompted all of us to harbour a wish to see the most famous cruise ship in history.

Well, the dream can come true in the near future as an Australian mining billionaire Clive Palmer has announced his plans to build a replica of Titanic. Yes, you read it right.

Palmer, who had announced his plans to resurrect the Titanic in 2012 and 2018, once again said that he would build a replica of the iconic ship that would be far more superior than the original vessel. The announcement by the Australian billionaire was made on Wednesday during an event at the Sydney Opera House.

Titanic II soon?

In a statement, Palmer asserted that his company — Blue Star Line — is willing to build the replica ship of Titanic and set sail in mid-2027. Palmer further stated that his partners have been re-engaged to build the Titanic ll. He added that the project had earlier stalled due to unforeseen global delays.

Publicity or hoax?

The billionaire, however, said that his company was yet to acquire a shipyard to build the iconic ship. “Bullshit, I have enough money to build the Titanic 10 times over,” CNN quoted Palmer as saying when asked about whether the project was a hoax or a publicity stunt. Palmer added that his company was hiring the world’s best ship-builders, designers and engineers to build the Titanic II.

According to Palmer, the Titanic II will boast rooms for 2,345 passengers and 835 cabins across nine decks. Of the total rooms, half will be reserved for first-class passengers. With a ballroom, grand swimming pool and Turkish baths, the Titanic II will have the same interiors and cabin layout as the original vessel. The Titanic II is likely to build at the whopping cost of $1 billion, according to reports. The route of Titanic II is likely to be from England’s Southampton to New York City.
