Bad news for Coca-Cola, Pepsi as Saudi Arabia launches its own cold drink, it is made from…, the name is…

The global soft-drink market is dominated by major players such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi, but the industry giants may have a major challenge on their hands, which has come from a part of the world they would have least expected, Saudi Arabia. Yes, the Islamic kingdom recently introduced ‘Milaf cola’, the world’s first soft-drink made from dates, at the Riyadh Date Festival.
World’s first cola made from dates
Milaf cola, which is developed and packaged by Thurath Al-Madina, a subsidiary of Saudi government’s Public Investment Fund, is a healthier alternative to traditional sodas as it does not contain any artificial sweeteners. Instead the refreshing drink is made from locally-sourced high-quality dates, which are packed with natural sugars, dietary fibers, and essential minerals, making Milaf cola an innovative combo of refreshment and health.
Unlike traditional colas and soda-based drinks that are loaded with unhealthy processed sugar and empty, Milaf cola offers a naturally sweetened option for soda lovers, which is both refreshing and has various health benefits.
‘Like drinking sunshine’
Thurath Al-Madina’s innovative fizzy treat is compliant with international food safety standards, and prepared from fresh, locally-sourced dates. It is also a eco-friendly option and is in line with economic diversification and self-sustainability vision of the Saudi Arabian government as the oil-rich nation looks to diversify its oil-based economy in the coming decades.
Milaf cola enthralled soda lovers with its natural taste and refreshing flavour at the Riyadh Date Festival as cola enthusiasts showered praise upon the innovative drink. “It’s like drinking sunshine, if sunshine tasted like dates and happiness,” is how person described its taste.
Meanwhile, Thurath Al-Madina, the company behind Milaf cola, said it plans to expand its production line and go global in the near future. The company also has more date-based refreshments in the pipeline, including energy drinks and infused beverages.
