Dhanush sues Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan over unauthorised footage
The issue stems from the alleged unauthorised use of footage from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, which was produced by Dhanush’s production company, Wunderbar Movies. The footage in question reportedly appeared in the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. Dhanush had previously demanded a compensation of Rs 10 crore after the trailer of the documentary featured three seconds of behind-the-scenes clips from his 2015 film.
Wunderbar Movies has also sought the court’s approval to include Netflix’s parent company, Los Gatos Production Services India LLP, in the case, arguing that the matter falls within the jurisdiction of the Madras High Court. Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, produced by Wunderbar Movies, featured Nayanthara in the lead role. Dhanush claims that the documentary used the movie’s footage without his prior consent.

On Wednesday, the civil suit was heard by a bench headed by Justice Abdul Quddhose, who directed Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan to respond to the case. The judge also adjourned the matter for further proceedings.
Senior lawyer P.S. Raman, representing Wunderbar Movies, requested that Los Gatos be included in the case, while advocates Sathish Parasaran and R. Parthasarathy appeared for Nayanthara and Netflix, respectively. Justice Quddhose approved the inclusion of Los Gatos, acknowledging that a significant part of the dispute occurred within the Madras High Court’s jurisdiction.
