Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 – Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Flex-Fuel Showcased
In an exciting development for the Indian automotive market, Maruti Suzuki has taken a significant leap forward by unveiling its latest innovation, the Wagon R Flex Fuel, at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024.
First introduced to the public at the Auto Expo in Delhi earlier this year, this innovative vehicle from Maruti Suzuki is poised to revolutionize the streets of India by late next year.
The Wagon R Flex Fuel represents a milestone as the country’s first mass-market flex-fuel car, designed to significantly cut down on tailpipe emissions by utilizing a blend of ethanol and petrol as fuel.
The appearance of the Wagon R Flex Fuel remains faithful to the classic Wagon R design, but it’s the ‘Flex-Fuel’ decals that set it apart, signalling its eco-friendly credentials. Inside the cabin, fluorescent embellishments echo the decals, adding a unique touch to the vehicle’s interior.
Under the hood, the Wagon R Flex Fuel is powered by a familiar 1.2-litre, four-cylinder engine, delivering 88.5bhp and 113Nm of torque, with a standard five-speed manual transmission. There’s potential for an automatic version in the future, but for now, the focus is on its environmentally friendly performance.
The Wagon R Flex Fuel is compatible with ethanol-petrol blends ranging from 20 per cent (E20) to 85 per cent (E85), making it 79 per cent more environmentally friendly without compromising on performance.
To achieve this, the vehicle has undergone several modifications, including the addition of ethanol sensors, heated fuel rails for enhanced cold start performance, and an upgraded engine management system. Together with a more robust fuel pump and injectors, these improvements ensure the car runs efficiently on flex fuel.
