Boring & pathetic’ People demand ban on Adah Sharma’s ‘Bastar’ from ‘Kerala Story’ makers

After the blockbuster success of The Kerala Story, the makers of the controversial film reunited with Adah Sharma for a political action thriller titled Bastar: The Naxal Story.

Directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Shah, Bastar opened to majorly negative reviews from film critics and it looks like the response from audiences isn’t positive either.

Set against the backdrop of the Naxal movement in eastern India, the official synopsis of the film reads, “Based on the real-life incidents of Naxals in Chattisgarh – The Bastar rebellion broke out in 1910 in present day Chattisgarh.”

The film has taken a poor start at the box office and there is already a hashtag, #BanBastarMovie trending on X.

Reviewing the film, one user wrote, “#BastarTheNaxalStory Totally Cringe Movie Boring & Pathetic Without Story Rating 1 Adah Sharma Pls Take Retirement”.

Another user wrote, “The content of #BastarMovie is deeply offensive and insensitive. It’s time to #BanBastarMovie and respect the sentiments of the community.”

A third user commented, “It’s disappointing to see #BastarMovie misrepresenting the rich heritage and traditions of Bastar. We demand an immediate #BanBastarMovie.”

However, there were a few who praised the film and called it “brave filmmaking”.

One user reviewed, “#BastarFilmReview – 4/ 5 With its ruthless action sequences and standout performances, particularly from #AdahSharma and the compelling supporting cast the film is a force to be reckoned with”.

Another user reacted, “#BastarTheNaxalStoryReview: This is called Fearless filmmaking, In India, u can’t make films on some topics, sure they kill u, and this is one of those topics, how the corrupt politicians using naxals, & how maoists torture & kill innocent people of villages #BastarTheNaxalStory”.

Bastar: The Naxal Story released alongside Sidharth Malhotra’s Yodha at the box office.

Unlike the Adah Sharma starrer, Yodha got some decent reviews coming its way.

MensXP in its review of the action thriller wrote, “Though Yodha follows the same ‘India and Pakistan working together against terrorism’ template, it still looks fresh. You should definitely give this film a watch because of its action and Sidharth Malhotra’s comeback on the big screen as a patriotic hero.”
