Businessman, a distant relative of Sukhbir Singh Badal, robbed, killed in Goa
A couple, who allegedly visited the victim’s house on Saturday, has been arrested from neighbouring Maharashtra in connection with the murder, according to police.
The deceased, identified as Narottam Singh Dhillon alias Nims Dhillon, was from Punjab and had been living alone in Goa since 2015, according to the police. He was reportedly a distant relative of Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Accused robbed businessman of gold, car
Following investigations, it was revealed that the businessman was alone at his home on Saturday night when the accused man and woman allegedly visited him on pretext of discussing a potential business deal and robbed him before killing him. The duo allegedly robbed him of some gold jewellery, his mobile phone and a rented car. According to initial probe, the accused allegedly smothered the victim to death, and minor injury marks were found on his body, police said. The accused woman, however, told the investigators that the victim allegedly made objectionable advances to her following which she and her accomplice smothered him with a pillow.
Accused arrested from Mumbai
Following a probe, the accused identified as Ramachandra Sahu (32) and Nitu Shankar Rahuja (22), both from Madhya Pradesh, were arrested by the Porvorim police from Navi Mumbai in neighbouring Maharashtra, deputy superintendent of police Vishwesh Karpe said.
The senior police officer further said that the Navi Mumbai Police detained the duo after receiving information about them and later a team of Porvorim police took their custody by Sunday evening, news agency PTI reported. Further probe into the matter is underway, police said.
