CAA Online Portal Is Live: How To Apply For Indian Citizenship, Process, Website Link and More
Ministry of Home Affairs announced in a post on X that a new portal has recently been launched after the announcement of Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 under the CAA-2019. Persons who are eligible under CAA-2019 can apply for citizenship on this online portal.
The Indian government has also revealed that a dedicated mobile app named “CAA-2019” will also be launched soon to facilitate the online application process through the mobile app. Meanwhile, you can apply for Indian citizenship through the indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in portal.

Who is eligible to seek Indian citizenship under CAA, 2019?
Individuals from the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, or Christian communities originating from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, or Pakistan are needed to fill out the online form for the Indian citizenship under CAA, 2019. They must meet the following criteria:
- Arrived in India on or before December 31, 2014; and
- Granted exemption under section 3(2)(c) of the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920, or exempted from the application of the Foreigners Act, 1946, or any relevant rule or order.
How to apply for Indian Citizenship under CAA 2019:
To apply, the applicant must apply online to the Empowered Committee via the District Level Committee (DLC) headed by the Designated Officer (DO). Here is how to do it:
- This can be done by visiting https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in or using the mobile application CAA-2019. The applicant should complete the relevant form, attach all required documents as mentioned, and pay the Rs. 50 fee online.
- During the application process, the applicant can choose to receive either an ink-signed copy or a digital version of the certificate of registration or naturalization. If the applicant opts for the ink-signed copy, it will be provided accordingly. Otherwise, a digital certificate will be issued.
