Can drinking good wine boost your mood? Scientists explain how that works
Wine and weekends go hand in hand for many people. Made with grapes, this drink is said to be a source of resveratrol, an antioxidant that fights inflammation and makes the heart healthier as well.
However, doctors also associate the beverage with hypertension risk if consumed in excess. But for people who pop the bottle open on a stressful day to enjoy a glass or two, there is scientific evidence to back the benefits of wine. Turns out, drinking wine can make one feel happier. Researchers associated the intake of quality wine with a spectrum of positive emotions.
How does wine affect mood?
For this, researchers tracked the emotions of 50 participants via heart rate monitors and with questionnaires. As per experts, drinking good wine marks a surge of serenity and joy and a drop in feelings of sadness and fear as compared to cheap wine. Furthermore, the effects are intensified by listening to jazz music. Researchers at the National Research Council of Italy said that wine is seen to generate a significant emotional response. And the same is directly proportional to the quality of wine.
What are the health benefits of red wine?
Red wine has been a part of cultural, social, and religious events for centuries. And when consumed in the right, limited quantities, it is associated with health benefits. In recent years, studies decoded that the ideal amount of wine for men and women, in one day, is nothing more than two glasses and one glass respectively.
Going beyond this can do more harm than good by contributing to weight gain and even heart disease in the long run. The health benefits of drinking red wine are:
- Better vision
- Better oral health
- Lower risk of cancer
- Better memory and cognitive function
- Healthier heart
- Blood pressure control
- Blood sugar management
- Fighting infections
According to experts, atherosclerosis patients can also benefit from drinking this antioxidant-rich alcoholic beverage, but in moderation.
