Can Machines Get Burned Out Too? Robot "Suicide" Raises Concerns About Workload
Can work pressure affect robots too? Well, the answer might be “yes”. In a surprising turn of events, a civil servant robot working for the Gumi City Council in South Korea apparently “suicided” and left many confused. This is being termed as the country’s first “robot suicide”. According to officials, the robot threw itself down a flight of stairs for reasons unknown. On June 26, Gumi City Council said parts of a robot known as Robot Supervisor were found scattered under the stairs between the first and second floors of the council building.
According to a media report, the robot supervisor was a hard-working employee of Gumi City Council who worked from 9 am to 6 pm every day.
Suicide due to workload?
According to a media report, the robot became stressed due to the heavy workload. Local residents said that it was circling the same spot for a long time before falling down. Then he jumped down. Why and how it fell is being investigated.
The fragments have been collected by a special investigation team and will be analyzed by the company. People liked the robot worker a lot because it delivered various types of government papers to local residents. He was also giving information to people. A ‘Robot Supervisor’ was appointed in August 2023. This was the first robot appointed as an officer. It was created by Bear Robotics, a robot startup from California. It also had a civil service officer’s card.
