1. Calculation of marks obtained in CAT: First of all, the marks of the candidate are calculated. This calculation is done by adding the marks obtained in all three sections – Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VA-RC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DI-LR) and Quantitative Ability (QA).

2. Normalization: After this, the total marks obtained in the CAT exam are normalized. Through this process, it is ensured that the marks of all the candidates are on the same scale.

3. Calculation of Percentile: Based on the normalized marks, the percentile of the candidate is calculated. This percentile shows how the candidate has performed in comparison to other candidates.

4. Interpretation of Percentile: Percentile is interpreted last. It shows how many candidates the candidate has left behind in the CAT exam.

Example- If your CAT score is 250 and percentile is 95, then it means that you have scored 250 marks in the CAT exam and the result is better than 95% of the candidates.
