ChatGPT and Gemini have a New Competitor! Anthropic Announces Claude 3 AI Model
In a significant development in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, Anthropic has unveiled its latest series of AI models, Claude 3, marking a new era in the domain with enhanced capabilities and performance.
The third installment of the company’s AI-powered chatbot is available in three distinct versions: Claude 3 Haiku, Claude 3 Sonnet, and Claude 3 Opus. Among these, the Opus model stands out as the most advanced, with Sonnet and Haiku following in terms of capability.
What is Claude 3? What are its Advantages?
According to Anthropic, the new models exhibit improved performance in various aspects, including analysis, forecasting, content creation, code generation, and conversing in multiple languages such as Spanish, Japanese, and French. Notably, Claude 3 introduces a first for the company – a multimodal model capable of processing both text and image inputs, although it does not generate images.
The enhancements in Claude 3 extend to its context window as well, which now has a capacity of up to 200,000 tokens for Haiku and Sonnet, and, in certain cases, Opus can support up to 1 million tokens. This significant increase in context window size allows the AI to process a larger amount of data for better understanding and response accuracy.
An impressive aspect of Claude 3 is its benchmark performance. Anthropic has shared that in tests like MMLU, HumanEval, GSM8K, and HellaSwag, the Opus model notably surpassed competitors such as OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Google’s Gemini 1.0 Ultra. The company also highlighted the models’ ability to deliver near-instant results for complex research papers, showcasing their advanced computational power.
Integration and Accessibility
Anthropic has made the Sonnet and Opus models accessible to developers through API and its chatbot platform for users. The free version on Claude.ai will be powered by Sonnet, while the more sophisticated Opus model will be available under the Claude Pro subscription, priced at approximately $20 (roughly Rs. 1,650) a month.
Additionally, Sonnet is currently available in private preview through Amazon Bedrock and Google’s Vertex AI, with plans to add Opus to these platforms soon. The introduction of Claude 3 models represents a significant milestone in the evolution of AI technologies, offering enhanced capabilities that could benefit a wide range of applications.
With its advanced features and performance, Claude 3 sets a new benchmark in the field, promising a future where AI can handle more complex tasks with greater efficiency and understanding.
