CNG Bike Registration Process Explained: Number Plate Color and Requirements

This shift is not just limited to cars but is extending to motorcycles as well. Recently, on July 5th, India witnessed the launch of the world’s first CNG bike by Bajaj.

Introducing Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG Bike

Bajaj has introduced the Bajaj Freedom, a 125cc CNG bike, which has already begun bookings. This development has sparked questions about the registration process for CNG bikes in India and whether it differs from conventional vehicles.

Normal Registration Process

Contrary to speculation, there is no separate registration process mandated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for CNG bikes in India. The registration of a CNG bike follows the same procedures as regular motorcycles handled by the Regional Transport Office (RTO). However, there might be slight variations in the documentation and registration charges. For detailed information, visiting the local RTO office is advisable.

Number Plate Color for CNG Bikes

Unlike conventional vehicles with white number plates, electric vehicles feature green number plates. Similarly, there were queries about the number plate color for CNG bikes. As per current norms, CNG bikes are issued the same white number plates as regular motorcycles.
