Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb takes centre stage in The Penguin trailer
Max has dropped a fresh trailer for The Penguin series, promising a gripping dive into the underworld of Matt Reeves’ The Batman saga as it offers a glimpse into the darkness that will engulf Gotham City.
“The next chapter in @TheBatman saga from Matt Reeves. Academy Award Nominee Colin Farrell is #ThePenguin in the new Max Original Series, coming this fall to Max,” the official handle of the streaming platform wrote on X alongside the one-minute-26-second long trailer on Friday.
Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb, also known as The Penguin, takes centre stage in this haunting preview. The notorious villain, portrayed with chilling intensity by Farrell, delivers lines laden with menace. As the trailer unfolds, we witness Cobb deep in conversation, recounting the legend of Rex Calabrese, a gangster of old Gotham.
“When I was a kid, there was a gangster, real old-school type – Rex Calabrese; he was a big deal. He helped people. He saw you on the street, he’d call out to you,” Cobb reminisces in the trailer.
Yet Cobb’s admiration takes a darker turn as he continues, “When I’m 14, he has a heart attack and dies still holdin’ a cigar. In my neighbourhood, they throw a parade in his honour. A friggin’ parade. And it wasn’t fancy, but it was the gesture. The show of love, of what he meant. Can you imagine to be remembered like that?”
Set to debut with eight episodes, The Penguin features a stellar cast, including Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen.
Executive produced by Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, Lauren LeFranc (who also serves as showrunner), Craig Zobel (director of the first three episodes), and Bill Carraro, The Penguin, set to premiere later this year, is poised to be a gripping addition to the Batman universe.
