Colorectal cancer: Study finds blood test with 83% accuracy rate
In a latest study, researchers have found a way to detect colorectal cancer through blood test. This blood test, as per the research, can correctly detect colorectal cancer in 83 per cent of people who do not show any symptoms.
The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, is an evidence to help reveal the latent burden of this cancer.
The accuracy rate of this blood test for colorectal cancer is similar to at-home stool tests used for early detection of colorectal cancer.
The author of the study stated that the findings indicate that a promising step towards developing a tool to detect colorectal cancer early which will increase the effectiveness of the treatment. Corresponding author William M Grady, MD, a gastroenterologist at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center said, “The test, which has an accuracy rate for colon cancer detection similar to stool tests used for early detection of cancer, could offer an alternative for patients who may otherwise decline current screening options.”
