Contact Lenses Vs Spectacles: Experts Explain Which Is Better And Why
People with vision problems often have trouble choosing between contact lenses and spectacles. If you often wonder which one is suitable for your eyes, you’ve come to the right place.
Both contact lenses and glasses have their unique benefits and considerations, and the choice ultimately comes down to individual preference, lifestyle and eye health. We spoke to our expert Dr Shalini Shetty, MBBS, MS – Ophthalmology, who explained the difference between contact lenses and spectacles and which one you should choose.

Comfort and Choice
“Contact lenses have long been praised for their ability to provide a natural field of vision without frames. For many, unobstructed vision and freedom from the physical barrier of the face make contact lenses an attractive choice”, said Dr Shetty.
However, it is important to understand that not all people find contact lenses comfortable and some may experience dryness, irritation or difficulty adjusting to wearing them.
Glasses, on the other hand, offer a simple solution without daily adjustment and removal. They are easy to clean and maintain and do not cause eye discomfort. Glasses also act as a barrier and protect the eyes from external elements, such as dust and allergens, thus reducing the risk of eye infections.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) suggests that individuals in their 20s and 30s with healthy eyes and good vision undergo eye examinations every 5-10 years.
