CUET-UG 2024 set for major overhaul; changes in exam modes, structure, subject choices
The Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) is undergoing significant changes this year. The test will be administered in two modes depending on application volume: subjects with over 1.5 lakh applications will be pen-paper based, while those with fewer applications will be computer-based, according to media reports.
The upcoming CUET-UG will feature a revised exam structure, with most papers scheduled in a single shift to eliminate the need for normalisation of scores. The CUET advisory committee, composed of representatives from central universities, the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the National Testing Agency (NTA), will convene this week to finalize test dates and details, the report mentioned.
In addition, CUET-UG will limit subject choices to six, including the general test, unlike the current allowance of ten subjects.
The online application process for CUET-UG 2024 is expected to commence by the end of February, as per TOI. The exam dates are set between May 15 and 31, 2024, announced by NTA in September 2023.
The test format will vary based on application volume, with pen-paper mode for subjects with higher registrations and for specific regions like Kashmir, Jharkhand, and certain Northeastern areas. Computer-based tests will be administered for subjects with fewer applications. Furthermore, the majority of papers will be conducted in a single shift to eliminate normalisation.
