Embrace the Dark Side: Android 15 Update Enables System-wide Dark Mode for All Apps
Dark mode is preferred by many smartphone users, not only because it claims to improve battery life but also brings a new dark interface. Android 15 is going to bring another level of optimization for dark modes, and this time, you can also see color changes for apps that don’t support the mode. The latest Android 15 beta code hints at a Super Dark Mode feature that will turn all the apps on your phone into black/gray color. You might have noticed this issue with Android 14 where even the system default dark mode doesn’t work on all apps, making the whole interface look weird. But Android 15 could finally give apps a uniform look, as seen by tipster Mishal Rahman in his latest findings.
Android 15 Beta New Look Dark Mode: What We Can Expect
There are many apps that still don’t support dark mode (don’t know why) but Android 15 will finally fix the problem and make sure that apps or UI won’t feel jarring. The report claims that Android 15 will use a different algorithm that will ensure that the ‘make all apps dark’ mode works effectively and you won’t need third-party dark mode apps to make it happen in the near future. The tipster also shows some non-supported apps switching to dark mode on the Android 15 beta but we may have to wait a bit before Google shares the official details which should happen at the I/O 2024 keynote next month.
The first set of phones to receive the Android 15 update will be the Pixel series, followed by brands like Samsung, OnePlus and more. It’s about time that dark mode works universally across apps which hasn’t happened since we got the feature in 2019 when the Android 10 version was rolled out
