End Of ‘Restart To Update’? Microsoft May Soon Allow Windows 11 Update Without Restarting Device In Some Cases
Microsoft Windows 11 is among the most popular OS used in personal computers across the globe. The tech giant releases periodic security and feature updates for users who use the update.
However, this process may get easy as users may soon get the option to circumvent the reboot/restart requirements for security updates, Windows Central reported. For the unaware, the security patch is generally released for users at least once a month.
According to the report, this could change as the company is now testing “hot patching” to update systems for Windows 11 users. It is currently available for Windows Server editions and Xbox. The Windows 11 Dev Channel is testing the rebootless security update with “Virtualization Based Security” enabled, the report noted.
According to Microsoft, Hotpatching is a way to install OS security updates that “doesn’t require a reboot after installation. It works by patching the in-memory code of running processes without the need to restart the process.” As per the news outlet’s sources, the plan is to introduce the technology on Windows 11 for monthly security patches.
