Fasting-mimicking diet: This 5-day reset routine can burn belly fat, reverse ageing too
According to researchers, a five-day diet plan can prove instrumental in burning belly fat and reversing ageing as well. The reset routine is said to mimic the benefits of fasting and also allows one to eat while getting rid of belly fat and adding years to life.
Known as the fasting-mimicking diet (FMD), it is seen that people who followed it for five days every month for three months were able to reduce their biological age by two and a half years. US scientists back the health benefits of this routine.
What is fasting mimicking diet?
Fasting involves complete abstinence from food. This is different from intermittent fasting, a popular diet routine that involves eating and fasting in fixed windows during the day. It is associated with weight loss, a healthy heart, and diabetes management as well. Experts also say that going without food for hours can be tough for some but it helps the body detox naturally.
The FMD routine, developed by Valter Longo, a biogerontologist and director of the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California, aims at capturing the health benefits of the routine while still allowing one to eat. The five-day plan is rich in unsaturated fats and cumulatively low in proteins, calories, and carbs to mimic the effects of a liquid diet while offering essential nutrients.
