Fight with Gautam Gambhir resulted in poor bank balance: Manoj Tiwary on his time in IPL
Bengal legend Manoj Tiwary has continued to make startling revelations about his career. Days after stating that he would like to hear from MS Dhoni on why he was dropped from the Indian team, Tiwary has claimed that he would have had a much bigger bank balance had he not had a fight with former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir.
Manoj Tiwary, one of Bengal’s best batters played with Gautam Gambhir in Kolkata Knight Riders. Tiwary played a full season with KKR in their title winning 2012 season and scored 260 runs at an average of 26. The batter revealed that he had a big fight with Gambhir behind the scenes, which resulted in KKR releasing him from the team ahead of their 2014 campaign.
Tiwary, while speaking to Anandabazar Patrika claimed that he would have earned a lot more money in his career had he stayed at KKR for the next two or three seasons.
“During my time at KKR, I had a big fight with Gambhir in the dressing room. That never came to light. KKR became the champion in 2012. At that time, I managed to hit four, so the team won. I got a chance to play for KKR one more year. Had I not fought with Gambhir in 2013, maybe I would have played for another two-three years. That means the amount I was supposed to get as per the contract would have gone up. Bank balance would be strengthened. But I never thought about that,” Manoj Tiwary told Anandabazar Patrika.
The batter further revealed a story from his time in Delhi Daredevils. Tiwary claimed that there was a miscommunication between him and the team, which originated from his frustration.
“Gary Kirsten was the coach when I played for Delhi Capitals. I was seeing in front of my eyes in one match after another that the first eleven was not going well. The combination is not correct. Eligible cricketers were not getting a chance to play. Many were out due to injuries. The results of the team were not good. I went straight and said, leave me if you can’t put me in the XI. My contract then was ?2.8 crore. I never thought that if I said this, they would misunderstand me and leave me. Never thought of my loss,” Tiwary concluded on the matter.
