Gautam Gambhir Looks Beyond IPL 2024 Triumph, Targets Overtaking MI and CSK

KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir is determined to make his team the most successful franchise in the Indian Premier League as they aim to surpass MI and CSK’s record number of title wins. Notably, Kolkata recently won their third IPL title by defeating SRH in the final of IPL 2024. After their win, the Shreyas Iyer-led team became the third most successful team in the competition after MI and CSK who have won five titles each. . After their win, Gambhir set their sights on becoming the most successful team in the history of the tournament. Commenting on his team’s win, the former KKR captain said the journey has just begun as he looks to add three more trophies to his team’s tally to become the most successful franchise in the tournament.

“You are saying this because we have won it three times but if you ask me we are still two trophies behind MI and CSK. Yes, I am happy today but the hunger inside is that we are still not the most successful franchise in IPL. To get there, we need to win three times and for that, we have to work really hard. So I think, if we are able to make KKR the most successful franchise of the tournament, nothing could be better but for that, the journey has just started,” Gambhir told Sportskida.

Speaking further, the 42-year-old singled out KKR’s first title win in 2012 as the most special as it laid the foundation for their next two wins in 2014 and 2024 respectively.

Gambhir chose IPL 2012 as the ‘most special’ victory
“2012, not just because I was the captain but because we won it for the first time, I just told you that when you win for the first time, you know what kind of cricket you need to play to win the IPL final. . Until you win, you keep questioning whether you can win or not. Once you win it you think we’ve won it and will win it again. So 2012, because we won it for the first time,” he added.

Notably, Gambhir led KKR to their first title win in 2012 by defeating defending champions CSK in the final. He inspired his team to their second victory in 2014, defeating PBKS in a high-scoring final. It took ten years for KKR to add a third trophy to their cabinet as Gambhir returned to the franchise as a mentor after stepping down ahead of the 2018 season. KKR fans will hope that Gambhir continues his ‘Midas touch’ for the team and continues to guide them to more IPL wins in the coming years.
